Dental implants, Portland

Dental implants in Portland: planned in 3D, placed in stages, finished by one team.

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone to act as the root of a replacement tooth. We plan it from a 3D scan, place it with local numbing, give the bone time to bond, then fit the crown. The visit-by-visit plan is yours, in writing, before anything starts.

  • 3D scanbefore any treatment is decided
  • Phasedevery step and estimate in writing
  • One teamfrom the extraction to the final crown

The idea

An implant replaces the root, not just the visible tooth. That is why it feels stable, and why the planning matters more than the placement.

The path

How a dental implant is made, step by step.

Most implants take several months from the first visit to the final crown, because the bone needs time to bond with the post. Your plan shows the dates.

  1. 01

    Consultation and 3D scan

An exam, a 3D scan of your jaw, your medical history and a conversation about what you want. You leave with your options, not a booking.

  2. 02

    The written plan

Each phase, the likely timeline, who does what and the estimate, on paper. If any part needs an oral surgeon, such as a larger bone graft, the plan says so.

  3. 03

    Placement

The area is numbed. The implant is placed in the bone and the gum is closed over it or fitted with a small healing cap. Many people go home and eat soft food the same day.

  4. 04

    Healing

Over the following weeks to months the bone bonds to the implant. We check progress, and give you a temporary tooth if the gap is visible.

  5. 05

    Abutment and crown

A connector is attached to the implant, a scan or impression is taken, and the porcelain crown is made, fitted and adjusted to your bite.

  6. 06

    Looking after it

Maintenance visits with our hygienist, Camille, and a home routine that keeps the gum around the implant healthy. An implant needs the same care as a natural tooth.

Is it for you

Who an implant suits, and who may need another route.

An implant suits many adults who are missing a tooth and have healthy gums and enough bone. The scan and exam tell us what is there, and whether bone needs building first.

It may not be the right first step if gum disease is active, if bone is thin and needs a graft, or if a health condition or medicine slows healing. In those cases we explain the alternatives, which may include a bridge or a partial denture, and what would need to change first. Results vary from person to person.

  • Healthy gums and enough bone, or a plan to rebuild it
  • Good general health, or conditions that are well controlled
  • A commitment to cleaning and check-ups
  • Smoking discussed openly, because it affects healing

What we check

Four things that decide whether an implant is a good fit.

01

Bone

There must be enough height and width to hold the implant. The 3D scan measures it. If not, a bone graft may help, and we refer complex grafts.

02

Gums

Gum disease is treated first. Healthy gum around an implant is what keeps it in service.

03

Health and medicines

Some conditions and medicines change how bone heals. We ask, we write it down and we plan around it.

04

Habits and bite

Smoking and heavy grinding both add risk. We talk about them without judgement and plan for them.

FAQ

Questions about dental implants in Portland

Still unsure? Call (503) 555-0173.

What is a dental implant?

It is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone that acts as the root of a replacement tooth. A connector called an abutment sits on top, and a porcelain crown is fitted to the abutment. Together they replace the root and the tooth.

How long does the whole process take?

Usually several months, because the bone needs time to bond with the implant. The exact timeline depends on your bone, any extraction or graft, and how you heal. Your written plan shows the expected dates.

Does placing an implant hurt?

The area is numbed, so you feel pressure rather than pain. Soreness afterwards is common and is usually managed with ordinary pain relief taken as directed. We tell you what to expect before the day.

What if I do not have enough bone?

The 3D scan shows this before any decision. A graft may help build bone. Complex grafts and sinus work are referred to an oral surgeon, and your plan says so up front.

How long will an implant last?

It depends on your bone, gum health, bite and home care, so we do not promise a number. We explain the factors and plan maintenance visits to protect your investment. Results vary.

Will insurance help?

Some plans cover part of the extraction or the crown. We work with most major PPO plans and check before your visit. The written estimate shows what is expected to be covered, and third-party financing is available.
